Traditional ‘contemporary’ #art

I’m finding it a little awkward to move away from a more traditional style of drawing and seeing, such as below. It takes a lot of time to get the feel of a place and to know how to respond to it. Most of my sketches are quick and immediate, without any ‘extra’ thought; while others seem to head off into a strange direction..they lead me away into a new landscape totally unconnected to what I’m looking at.

I’d like to develop the ethereal landscape style. I’ve been working with displacing the ‘real’ with moving lines and ‘travelling’ across the paper – see first image and then updated below. Enjoying where this is going anyway!

And it’s pretty clear that I’m liking those pastels!

I am a Wiltshire-based landscape artist, working outdoors, come rain or shine. I recently left full time work in order to pursue my life-long ambition of being an artist.
